How to Appeal NSFAS Rejection Decision for 2022
NSFAS Appeals are often opened a couple of weeks after the main application period is over. Nsfas opens applications from November till the January of the New year. Appeals are open to TVET students, university students and disability students who may have been rejected by the scheme due to they not meeting the requirements.
NSFAS Appeal for 2022 is still ongoing and the interested applicants are to follow the appeal process listed below to have their decision reconsidered by the scheme.
How to Appeal NSFAS Rejection Decision
NSFAS rejects applicants every year. These rejections are due to varied reasons some of which are listed on the page too. A detailed list below is of the processes and steps to follow in order to appeal your nsfas decisions. Here’s how to submit your NSFAS appeal:
- Click here to visit the myNSFAS website.
- Log into your myNSFAS account.
- Click the ‘Track Funding Progress’ option.
- Check the application progress tabs.
- If your application status reflects an unsuccessful message, you may submit an appeal by clicking on the ‘Submit Appeal Tab’.
- Once you are on the ‘Application Appeal’ page, you can see the reason for your unsuccessful application status.
- You are then able to choose the appeal reason.
- Upload certified supporting documents to support your reason.
- Click ‘Submit Appeal’.
- Students may track the progress of their appeal on their myNSFAS account.
How long does NSFAS Appeal Take
How long does NSFAS appeal take? Usually, it should take at most 30 days for NSFAS to respond to appeals. However, NSFAS may respond faster if there’s enough information that are accurate and NSFAS can evaluate and verify faster and easily. Again it should not take more than one month for NSFAS to respond to your application for appeal for funding.
Who Qualifies for NSFAS Appeal
Those who qualify for nsfas appeal must first check if their status shows any of the following below. This applies to both new applicants and continuing students. New applicants are allowed to appeal if their application was declined for the following reasons:
Insufficient information provided: Not providing all the information needed and asked for.
Financial ineligibility: Not meeting the financial requirements set out in the qualifications criteria
Academic ineligibility: Not maintaining the grades in the categories expected by nsfas.
Continuing students are allowed to appeal if declined based on:

GAP year students are required to re-apply for NSFAS funding.
Students who have reached the N+2 limit (or N+3 in the case of those who live with a disability) are not permitted to lodge an appeal. āNā refers to the minimum number of years to complete a qualification and ā+ā refers to the number of additional years funded in the case where a student fails.
Why Will NSFAS Reject My Application
Students who have completed a previous qualification.
Students with a combined household income of more than R350 000 per annum.
Students who have already applied, qualified and received funding. They are automatically funded for the duration of their studies provided they pass their modules and meet the academic requirements.

- Certified copy of Identification Document (ID)
- South African passport or birth certificate.
- Proof of income (payslip/appointment letter/UIF letter/recruitment letter, ect) not older than 3 months.
- A signed consent form.
- Copy of parents/guardian ID.
- Vulnerable Child Declaration form
- Declaration of Non-SASSA
- Disability Annexure A form
Is NSFAS Appeal Still Open for 2022
Yes as at September 2022 NSFAS were still accepting appeals from applicants that had been rejected. All appeals for the 2022 application period will come to an end a week before the start of the new season in November when the 2023 application period begins.
